The change of the host was all about evolution. It was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new and kind of making it reach out to a new audience as well as the audience that has been there for years.
- This season Tyra Banks replaced former Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
- Andrew Llinares, Executive Director of ABC says it because the company wanted the show to evolve.
During his e-mail address at the VirtuFall panel on ABC, DWTS Executive Producer Andrew Llinares stated that they chose to replace Tom and Erin simply because they wanted a new host.
“I think it’s all about evolution. I think any show that has been on many, many seasons must continue to evolve,” he said, per Us Weekly. “I think the changes of the host were all about evolution; it was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new and kind of making it reach out to a new audience as well as the audience that has been there for years.”

Andrew also explained that Tyra’s appointment was practically a power move for the show. According to him having one host (rather than two) was really beneficial to the changing the pacing of the show. It also seems like a high management team at ABC are digging Tyra too, as he gushed about how good of a job she is doing.
The one host has worked brilliantly, I think. I think it really changed the pace of the show, actually,” he told Amadeus. It’s taken to a new pace, in terms of speed and just feeling different. When a show has been for long enough there is a real danger that the audience almost gets bored of rhythm. It doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with it. It starts getting a little boring — the rhythm of it — just. So I think it’s really changing the rhythm of the show.
He continued and said: “Tyra is doing an amazing, amazing job. I love to have her energy in the ballroom and her experience as host in the ballroom. I think she brings new life to everything I know. It is really exciting.
Can’t wait to catch in again Monday night :
