He remembered “We would look out into the ocean but could not go into the ocean; we would look at the beach but couldn’t go to the beach.”
Armie Hammer would probably not actually have to go through a divorce right now if it were not for the coronavirus pandemic!
In a cover interview for the November issue of British GQ, the 34-year-old actor revealed his separation from his wife of 10 years, Elizabeth Chambers, and revealed that the extreme quarantine situation of the family ultimately led to the breakdown of their relationship.
The callie n tells Me By Your Name Star from the glossy:
“I don’t think you’ll find anybody in the world who would ever say that what I’m going through is an easy thing to do. It is not about whether or not it was your idea or whether or not you think it is the right idea or not. A separation like this is a severly seismic event in somebody’s life.
Immediately after they spent weeks in isolation with their two children — Harper, 5, and Ford, 3, the actor’s father and his stepmother, the soon-to-be exes announced this seismic event in July.

Hammer admits that the experience was not exactly a dream escape. He recalled
“We’d look out to the ocean but couldn’t go in the ocean; we would look at the beach but couldn’t go on the beach. We could not leave the apartment, could not go swimming or could do nothing. It was a really concentrated family time which is really great with the children, but it was intense.
The star continued to explain that this “very complex, intense situation” was aggravated by having “big personalities locked in a tiny place all together,” added :
“It was tough man. I’d never dealt with anything similar before in my life so I didn’t have the tools. It was simply this thing that snuck onto everyone. I do not think I handled it well. To be quite frankly, I come very close to losing my mind entirely. Then I felt completely powerless…
The actor elaborated on how he felt like he was descending into Quarantine madness.
I was on an island where the lockdown was so severe that mail could no longer even arrive in it. I felt so deeply trapped as a wolf who got trapped in a snare and wanted to cut his own foot off. I was simply like I can’t do that. I hope you’ll get me out of here. ”

Armie’s mental state fortunately stabilized after he sought therapy, which gave him “a fresh perspective” and was “incredibly helpful”
Sadly, his marriage was apparently beyond the point of redress, but the Golden Globe nominee and his estranged wife are committed to keep their split civil for the sake of their children. XW.H. shared:
The plight of people shifted and there is a lot of growing pains and a lot of changes. The transformation is a universal constant. Change is never bad, but that doesn’t mean it is painless. Elizabeth and I are two adults deciding on this issue and the priority is how to do it in a way that affects our children the least? “How do we help them all through this in a way that mitigates as much desperation or fear or damage on their part, you know?”
It’s always sad to see the death of a couple — and COVID had many of them — but we’re glad that Armie and Liz put their children first throughout all this!
