Physical exercise has been shown to have many beneficial effects on our body, but also for the cognitive and mental health. Previous research has found that aerobic exercise enhances executive function, while combining it with high intensity interval training could improve neuroplasticity of the brain.
NEW research now identifies the relationship between physical exercise and memory. This studio discovered that after an intense exercise session of about 15 minutes there was an improvement in memory.
To conduct this study, 15 participants were present, all healthy young men who were not regular athletes. A memory test was conducted under three different conditions: after 30 minutes of moderate cycling, after 15 minutes of intense cycling – at 80% of the maximal heart rate – and after periods of rest
What they found was an improvement in both test results and brain tissue activation. Researchers argue that this could be caused by endocannabinoids, molecules that increase synaptic plasticity. The higher the endocannabinoids were after exercising the more brain activity was seen and the better the participants performed on memory tests.
It is a study with a very small sample and only healthy young men were found in it. De cette reason, it would be difficult to generalize results to other social groups. In any case, it is an approach to the relationship between physical exercise and memory that has merged the existing studies on cognitive health and sports For all practical purposes, exercise before studying can be a good trick for students and other who must pass such tests.
