Advice from his father lead Israel Adesanya to scrape pink hair before UFC 253

In early August, images and video of UFC-Champion Israel Adesanya on social media at a new look, his hair pinking up, was on the news that caught plenty of people off guard.

But in the days leading up to UFC 253 and at the event itself, Adesanya was back to his natural black hairstyle after defending his title with Paulo Costa successfully.

Israeli Adesanya reveals why he stopped looking for pink hair before UFC 253

During the postfight press conference at UFC 253, Adesanya revealed that the words of his father convinced him to shave the pink hair.

None of it had to do with looking silly or a negative reception about looks. According to Adesanya, his father claimed that the brightness of the pink hair would be a disadvantage for him — even if it would cause Costa’s vision to be damaged.

“My dad… he said that I’m going to blind him with my jug,” he said. When he’s compromised in one eye and I take the other eye out, if he sees a pink color, he still knows where my head is. He’ll know that’s where my head is and he just wants to focus on the pink hue. So I was like: “You’re right.” And like a good boy, I listened to my dad. He is a smart man.

He luckily made easy work for Costa for Adesanya and only needed two rounds to complete him in dominant fashion.

Adesanya now turns his attention to the scheduled Robert Whittaker versus Jared Cannonier fight for UFC 254 on 24 October, which may help determine the next opponent to his title. He predicts that Cannonier will win to an easily handed and welcomes that fight; however, he says he will make Whittaker back to Whittaker if he comes to it.

Adesanya knocked out Whittaker at UFC 243 to become a lightweight title over the ring.

I think Jared Robert Whittaker is dusting and I look forward to fighting him. I say what we said in the DMs, he said he wants it done like Naruto and Sasuke, and I said: I look forward to that. I think he will get it done, I root for him. Aber if Robert Whittaker wins and he wants to be knocked out a third time, I can also do that.”

UFC 253 was live on September 26th, 2020 from UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. Follow FanSided for all your live news and highlights
