At the 30th anniversary of his original film adaptation of his 1988 novel Cabal, Barker confirmed that he is indeed making progress on the series and that he is currently writing the book for the world of the titular group and is excited to work on the project with the Godzilla: King of the Monsters director, as well as the Hellraiser series adaptation at HBO, on which Dougherty is writer and executive producer.

Barker wrote and directed the film adaptation of his work but at the time of its release was considered a box office success. In the last decades, the film has achieved cult status in dark fantasy and horror fans alike.
The project is written by Josh Stolberg (Jigsaw) and Barker, the latter working to make the property relevant to the contemporary audience focusing on race relations that are interwoven within Nightbreed. The difference is that the tension is between human and monsters.

Nightbreed follows a group of underground Half-Humans and Half-Monsters who seek a new refuge and home after their original hideout is destroyed. This effort is led by a recent turned reluctant hero who reverts to his new supernatural status, but also deals with grief and mystery surrounding his fiancée’s death. Will this group assemble despite being hunted and persecuted by people who find their “otherness” terrifying?
Morgan Creek executive producer will be James G. Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall. Seraphim films also will produce senior producers Barker and Mark Miller. Books of Blood is due to debut on October 7 on Hulu, co-written by Barker, Brannon Braga and Adam Simon and led by Braga.
