With COVID disrupting the global fashion calendar this season (and for a considerable portion of the last season), many fashion houses have had to rethink their show experience. So while a TikTok fashion show may have appeared unimaginable in January, Dior presented its Spring / Summer 2021 show live on the platform on Tuesday. The new TikTok streaming feature enabled Dior s art director Maria Grazia Chirui to show her commitment to the origins of fashion and the meaning of cut and creation.

SS21 in a new form revisited the concept of clothes from its ethos. The collection provides skills and traditions from around the world, from Japanese to Indonesian, from men’s shirts to sleek coats. The clothes were accessible, a seamless blend of the house’s heritage with the hope of a happier time. It was elevated yet informal with the general relaxed fit of the collection, looser fit trousers and oversized shirting. Some of the pieces even seemed transformative, could be a tunic or dress. As a whole, the collection felt as if you could wear a majority of the pieces at home.

This season, we have seen everything from shorts, to a. TikTok has brought the very exclusive world of fashion to every fingertips. Saint Laurent, Balmain and now Dior have taken to the platform to showcase their style vision during COVID. We can’t help but wonder if this is the future of fashion — or the future of entertainment at large.
