The connection between the pandemic and our eating habits is indefensible.

The stress of isolation coupled with a struggling economy has caused many of us to find refuge with our old friends Big Mac, Tom Collins, Ben and Jerry.

But overindulging in this type of food and drink might not only affect your waistline but may also likely put you at greater risk of illnesses by spoiling your immune system.

Hearing the word “nutrition” brings many good diets, juice cleanses and supplements to the mind.

Americans seem quite concerned over their weight – 45 million of us get on weight loss products every year.

But consumes almost no vegetables – less than 1 serving a day.

The essential role of nutrition in the management of the body will never be conveyed when weight loss products are taken for granted, and not healthy daily eating.

In my work I teach students the clear relation between a balanced diet and a balanced diet.

A healthy immune system is our best defense against Coronavirus infections – together with social distancing measures and effective vaccines.

The right food is absolutely a must to keep, to keep it this way.

Although no substitute for medicine, good nutrition can work synergistically with medicine to improve the effectiveness of vaccines, reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases and reduce the burden on the health care system.

Scientists know that people with Covid-19-related serious infections are at a higher risk of being grave.

These include those with diabetes, obesity and kidney, lung or cardiovascular diseases.

Many of these conditions are connected to a.

Patients with cardiovascular or metabolic diseases have delayed immune responses, giving a welcome for viral invaders.

When that happens, the body responds with a more severe inflammation response and healthy tissues are damaged alongside the virus.

It’s not yet clear how much is factored in this change to the increase in mortality rates, but it is a factor.

What does this have to do with the nutrition of the country?

The Western diet typically has a high percentage of red meat, saturated fats and what is known as ” containing sugar and salt “.

A proper consumption of fruit and vegetables is missing.

Many Americans have access to the vital nutrients that our bodies need to function properly – including Vitamin A, C, and D and the minerals iron and potassium – despite the abundant calories that often accompany the Western diet.

And that is at least partially the reason for a dysfunctional immune system : too few vitamins and minerals and too many empty calories

A healthy immune system responds quickly to limit or prevent infection, but it also immediately “switch” to minimize damage to the body cells.

This balance uncontrollable by sugar.

A high percentage of refined sugar in the diet can contribute besides diabetes and obesity to the problem.

Essentially, that “dial” is never turned completely off.

While inflammation is a natural part of the immune response, it can be dangerous when it is not active consistently.

Indeed, obesity itself is characterised by chronic, high-grade inflammation and dysregulated immune responses.

And that vaccines might be less effective in obese people.

Nutrients, essential substances that help the body to grow properly and to stay healthy, aid in enhancing the immune system.

Why do we Americans not eat more of these plant-based foods and fewer of the bliss – Based foods?

It’s complex.

There would be a starting point in teaching people from a young age how to eat better.

It is important that nutrition education be stressed to reach from kindergarten to high school to medical schools.

Within America, millions of Americans have limited access to healthy food products.

In these circumstances, education must be coupled with a more accessible entry.

These long-term goals could yield substantial returns with relatively small investments.

Meantime, we can all take small steps to make increments in our dietary practices.

I’m not suggesting that we eat dessert, french fries and soda completely, just like they previously did.

But sadly, we as a society have yet to realise that food that makes us feel good and healthy really is not comfort food.

The Covid-19 Pandemic will not be the last to hit our shores, therefore it is vital that we use every preventive tool we have as a society.

Think of good nutrition as a skeeter for your health – it doesn’t guarantee that you won’t get sick – but it helps to ensure the best results.
